Scribd

July 15, 2012

Scribd is a social reading and publishing site. This allows for several uses of different levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy, but the one that most interests me is the highest – creating. Students can publish work online that they have created, and share it globally. This allows helps them to meet the Ohio Core Standard of using technology to publish and distribute writing.

Scribd can also be used to conduct research. There are millions of documents that can be read, evaluated, and commented on. Students can participate in online discussion regarding uploaded work. As a Language Arts teacher, this would be useful technology for a lesson that requires students to write, upload, and discuss their writing., and the writings of their classmates.

This website allows a variety of documents to be uploaded including word processing files, presentations, images, and spreadsheets. All documents can easily be connected and shared with other sites including Facebook and WordPress. Users can follow and be followed for easy interaction with other contributors who share the same needs and interests. The current uploads are separated into categories such as school work, non/fiction, court and law documents, crafts, how-to guides, and many more. This site offers many possibilities for teachers both in and outside of the classroom.
